[3FM] [MOD POST] /r/3FrameMovies' First Ever Contest Starts Now! – Prizes Include Limited Edition User Flair, Reddit Gold & Bitcoin
THIS CONTEST IS OVER
Submitting something here for the first time? Plan on maybe making more than just one? Then read this: The 'Everyone Wins' Contest for User Flair & Reddit Gold (or it's equivalency in Bitcoin if you prefer) Downvotes don't count. Heck, upvotes don't count either. Everyone who is eligible that posts a movie will get their choice of USER FLAIR! These will be on a first-come, first-served basis so early submitters will get their choice of the best ones. Flair that's no longer available will be darkened. We do text flair for the time being. They will also get their choice of one month of Reddit Gold or Bitcoin.
Most people have at least heard of Bitcoin but don't know really what it is. Here is not the place to go on discussing it but if you'd like to learn more about it, visit /Bitcoin and check out their sidebar.
Note that there are 35 images available so I am awarding ~$140 worth of prizes here. This is meant to stimulate more frequent submissions by new and various people rather than the regulars. Now that the How To Make a Three Frame Movie Tutorial exists, just about anyone can make a good-looking submission. Getting more people involved is the only way for this subreddit to improve from "It's okay," to "I can't wait to see what got posted today." Who is eligible?
Anyone who has posted no more than three (3) times already. Folks that have already done more than 3 pretty much have their technique down pat and don't need extra encouragement. Search for your username in the Search Reddit box if you are unsure of this number.
What are the rules?
Include relevant IMDb & RottonTomatoes links and movie descriptions as demonstrated from the tutorial like this.
You can enter more than once but you only get a single text flair and a single month of Reddit Gold/Bitcoin equivalent.
In the tutorial, it says that the IMDb stuff is optional. Which is it for the contest?
In the regular posting, it won't be a rule to obey but in the contest, it will be mandatory.
I already use Photoshop, MS Paint, etc. Do I have to use Picasa for the contest?
No. Picasa is merely another tool to help get EVERYONE who wants to be creating content involved.
Does it have to be any good?
Not in order to win Reddit Gold/Bitcoin. The admiration of the community and karma should be the main incentive, however, obviously low-effort submissions will be ignored.
After I'm done submitting everything, how do I get the flair I want and the Reddit Gold/Bitcoins?
Come back to this post to see what flair is remaining (not blurred out yet).
The same amount that it costs to buy one month Reddit Gold, $4 or ~฿ .004. If you later decide that Bitcoin is not for you, you can always buy Reddit Gold with it. You won't be able to purchase much with $4 worth of Bitcoin but just knowing that you own one of the coolest digital products in the universe is enough to give anyone a warm, fuzzy feeling.
I can't think of a movie or the one I wanted to do has been done already. Now what?
There's nothing against the rules to do a movie that's been done before as long as you do it differently. Find one that's been done already and change one or more of the frames to something better.
It ends when I run out of flair to award. Ours is a slow-moving subreddit so there's no rush. I'll make another [MOD POST] towards the end to see if anyone still needs more time.
If at anytime you have questions or need help creating your submission, leave a comment below and I'll be happy to help you out. Final thoughts: After this contest is over, I'm thinking of having another one where upvotes count (downvotes still don't) and the Grand Prize would be to change The Usual Suspects banner to a new one as the current one is getting kind of stale after a year. Or how about a gift certificate from /Random_Acts_Of_Pizza? Let me know what your thoughts are on all this.

You can no longer pay for reddit gold with Bitcoin.
I am not sure how new this is, but I noticed now... reddit no longer supports bitcoin payments for Reddit Gold. Adoption imminent. edit huh someone gave me gold through bitrefill. So apparently it's still possible, just through a third party. ok
I was frustrated about the lack of options to buy Reddit gold (I guess it’s called “coins” now - how apt...) with BTC/LN. Seems BitRefill could let you pay for a specific award with Bitcoin, but that means a transaction per award. You cannot just buy up some balance and then quickly award it to some comment on the spot. A shame. So I ended up creating a dedicated PayPal account (no credit card), topped it up with cryptex24.com, then paid for the coins with the PayPal balance. Alas, buying a subscription (i.e. Reddit Premium) is not possible with PayPal unless your account is at least linked to a credit card. Oh well. One small step for a pseudonymous man...

Hi everyone, I just wanted to post a quick message to say a big thank-you to everyone who has been reading, commenting and giving me reddit gold/bitcoin tips. When I posted the first few entries on the Ask Reddit thread, I was trying to respond to everyone who was kind enough to write to me. I haven't been able to keep up since sometime yesterday, and I feel really bad about not responding to everyone. Just wanted to let you all know I'm reading and appreciate every single comment, feedback, suggestion and it's really exciting and amazing to see that people are enjoying what I've written. Thank-you everyone here, I've never been sure if I'm okay at this writing stuff, so all your comments are really quite special to me. I hope you continue to enjoy this and I don't let anyone down!
Bitcoin Gold (BTG) is an open-source, community-driven cryptocurrency. We share a codebase and blockchain history with Bitcoin, but bring mining power back to individuals by preventing ASICs from overpowering the hashpool. We're pro-Bitcoin and pro-crypto, and we're here for the long haul! Peter just wasted ten years of his life waiting for gold to do what bitcoin did five times over.
